We also continue to need people willing to sanitize. We can only sustain our regular Mass schedule IF we have enough volunteers to sanitize our space after each Mass. It takes only about 15 minutes of your time after Mass. Please sign up to sanitize by clicking here.

My Dear parishioners:
Back in May, I prayed that the need for restrictions on how we celebrate the Eucharist would be short-lived. I prayed that we would be able to open fully and get back to normal quickly. Unfortunately we are not even close to realizing that desire. As cases continue to rise in our state and across much of the country, I cannot in good conscience encourage people to gather more closely, or more frequently, or relax our protocols when the scientific data tells us that people are safer at home, safer maintaining 6 feet of distance, and safer wearing masks. We are able to continue to celebrate the Eucharist with limited capacity Masses, thanks be to God, but not yet able to safely do more.
I have stated all along that I reopened with GREAT CAUTION and that we would follow the guidelines set forth by our Bishop and our Governor as closely as possible. It means many plans have been cancelled or postponed. It has required a surrender of control and an immense amount of humility. It is also charity in action. In doing our part to slow the spread of the virus, especially asymptomatic spread, we protect our healthcare workers and hospitals from being overwhelmed, protect our brothers and sisters in Christ from losing loved ones and possibly losing their own lives due to the virus. To that end I ask for your continued patience and understanding. I ask that you put needs above wants, and the needs of others above your own.
I again repeat the words of Bishop Medley that the OBLIGATION TO ATTEND SUNDAY MASS HAS BEEN REMOVED. If you are sick or compromised in any way or you live with anyone who is compromised, you should not attend. You may make a spiritual communion in prayer. You are encouraged to watch the livestream of the Saturday 4:30pm Mass on our Facebook page at https://facebook.com/hsccbg OR our website at https://holyspiritcatholic.org/livestreamed-masses. We will get through this together and as a church, we will continue to recognize Christ where he reveals Himself. Know that Fathers Shijo, Stephen and I pray for you daily, and we ask simply that you remember us in your prayer. I remain,
A Servant in the Lord,
Fr. John M. Thomas, Pastor

The Owensboro Diocese Youth Conference (ODYC) that was to be hosted November 20-21, 2020 at the Knicely Conference Center in Bowling Green, KY has been canceled. The Youth & Young Adult Office has begun the process to try to dream up new and creative ways to have some gathered youth ministry events and/or retreats throughout the diocese this fall and would love any ideas or suggestions you might have. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, thoughts, or concerns. Let’s continue to pray for one another and for the young people we serve.
